After hearing the many stories of MLB fans serving in Iraq, the league did something to show their appreciation by creating the Welcome Back Veterans campaign, which will work to bring troops more fundraising after they come home. This program began and made Major League baseball news on Monday. There will be fundraisers held over Fourth of July weekend and on September 11.
New Yorkers and Fred Wilpon, the Mets chairman, started this campaign to support the troops after hearing about the many soldiers who longed to come home and return to normal activities like watching their favorite team play.
During the selected weekends, players will wear “stars and stripes” hats to commemorate the troops back home and the ones still in Iraq and Afghanistan. These caps will be sold at concession stands around the country with portions of the proceeds going to troop fundraising.
When you go to purchase some more MLB team clothing, you will also see the soldier inspired hats at mlb.com. Veterans will throw the first pitches during the selected weekends as well according to Major League baseball news.
