The owner of the Dallas Mavericks, former Dancing with the Stars competitor and internet genius, Mark Cuban is apparently still in the running as a potential buyer for the Chicago Cubs. The major league baseball team has narrowed its list of potential buyers to five, including Cuban.

The Tribune Company currently owns the MLB team and has accepted bids of $1 billion from all the prospective buyers. It is rumored, according to the Sun-Times, that Cuban is not tops in the list because of his known outspoken ways. Since purchasing the Mavericks he has had fines of more than $1 million for snipes at NBA officials.

According to Major League Baseball rules 75% of the owners must sign off on the sale. A large bid from an investment group led by John Canning Jr., part owner of the Milwaukee Brewers and an good friend of commissioner, Bud Selig. this was the favorite bid.

A source told the Sun-Times that their bid was too low and they can't rebid. The rejection of the MLB bid should be a sign of growing tension between Tribune chairman, Sam Zell and the other owners.

In last month's draft, the Cubs apparently received a $500,000 fine for failing to report a signing to the MLB's New York offices and had the player on field before getting approved.
